There has been a vibrant 和 active LGBT presence at newbb电子平台 since the 1970s. 以下是校园酷儿事件的基本概述. Many of these accomplishments were initiated by students 和 are realities because of the passion 和 resilience of students.

  • 1972 ~ 同性恋 & 女同性恋 Association (GALA) starts as a group to provide social contact for lesbians, 男同性恋者, 双性恋者, 和 for people not yet certain about their emotional 和 sexual orientation. GALA changed its name to Open Doors in the 90s, 和 then became Spectrum Plus in 2020.
  • 1979 ~ first workshop on counseling gay people offered at the university (Helping Someone 同性恋: a growth-oriented model for counseling 和 psychotherapy with gay people).
  • 1980 ~ Sexual Orientation added to university’s Non-Discrimination Policy
  • 1992 ~ Minority Affairs Commission of Student Senate renamed to “女同性恋 同性恋 双性恋 Commission.” The T was later added 和 in 2013 the name changed from LGBT Commission to LGBTQA Commission (女同性恋, 同性恋, 双性恋, 反式*, 酷儿/质疑, 盟友). Former center director 米奇哈特 served as the first commissioner.
  • 1997 ~ Swarm of Dykes starts at the university as a source of lesbian 和 dyke visibility through action 和 activism by criticizing lesbophebia, 恐同症, biphobia, 不再恐, 性别角色 & 另类性感的转变. Swarm of Dykes later changed the name of the group to “Empowering Women of Ohio.”
  • 1998 ~ The LGBT Center established as a quarter-time operation as part of the Division of Student Affairs' commitment to a just 和 diverse community. The quarter-time program coordinator was a full-time member of the Department of Residence Life (now Residential Housing).

  • 2013 ~ Graduate Student Senate passes resolution to include health care services for trans* identified individuals as part of Student Health Plan.

  • 2014 ~ PRIDE Alumni Society forms (俄亥俄州's 校友 organization for LGBTQ+ alums)

  • 2019 ~ Micah McCarey is hired as the LGBT Center’s third director
  • 2019 ~ LGBT Center launches Progress Pledge campaign encouraging allies from across newbb电子平台 localities to pledge their commitment to active 和 intersectional support for community members who are LGBTQ+
  • 2020 ~ LGBTQ+ related student organization names 和 missions are updated to reflect contemporary queer support needs, including Open Doors rebr和ing itself as Spectrum Plus
